Built in 1936, by Jakobson Shipyard Incorporated of Brooklyn New York (hull #259) as the Dauntless No. 11 for the Dauntless Towing Company of New York, New York. In 1955, the tug was acquired by the Moran Towing Company of New York, New York, where she was renamed Martha Moran. In 1978, she was acquired by the Crosby Towboat Company of Boston, Massachusetts, where she was renamed back to Dauntless.
