About This Site

The French corvette La Bayonnaise sank off the Finisterre coast in 1803 when covering the route between Havana and Ferrol. Pursued by the English ship HMS Ardent, La Bayonnaise was run aground by its own crew and abandoned after setting fire to it, exploding hours later. The remains were found in 2009 at a depth of six meters next to the Langosteira beach by the Finisterre Diving Center, thanks to the collaboration of the patron José de Casto.
