On February 24, 1943, this German Ju-88 light bomber based in Sicily accidentally deviated its course after an attack on targets in Algeria. Upon seeing the Isla del Aire lighthouse and with little fuel available, the pilot decided to make an emergency landing in the sea, in front of the astonished eyes of a trawler of local fishermen. All 4 crew survived the landing. The plane now rests at a depth of 47 meters and as such, a Tec certificate is needed.
