Mabul Water Bungalows

Amazing base to snorkel around Mabul and Sipidan. Opportunity to see many many fish, including a school of bumphead parrot fish and huge napoleon wrasse, but also interesting pipe fish, crocodile fish, and others. Many turtles everywhere too. Shout out to our guy Arif.

Come stay at the resort if you enjoy and want to experience the life of a zoo or safari animal. The constant flow of day trippers (who only pay RM50) getting in your way, the noise they create outside your room when they shout to bargain for 1 RM discount from the villagers selling coconuts on their boat. They will block your way and make you feel that you're being an inconvenience to them while they take their time to pose for their beauty pageant photos. Expect empty water bottles and empty coconuts litters outside your room. From what we found out, during peak holiday season, there can be up to a thousand day trippers walking outside your room.

Place is amazing, staff is amazing, diving is amazing, but there is a core issue with the resort and this island. The amount of plastic. The locals are used to it but the resort can’t be and should support education and cleaning initiatives across the island. Will only come back if I see sustainability initiatives being started and I hope these 3 stars will incentivize the hotel to focus more on such important issues
