Visited the new location, and I'm in love! So much more shop room and classroom space. Took an intro class a while back and I've attended women's events. Both were top tier. 10/10 would recommend a visit if you're looking for gear, classes, or a community of awesome humans that love the ocean.
I just turned 46 this year, and I’ve been in the water most of my life. I started scuba diving when I was 10, and being comfortable in the ocean has always felt second nature to me. Over the years, diving has taken me all over the world and introduced me to some incredible marine life and experiences. That lifelong pull toward the ocean eventually led me to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor about a decade ago. People have often asked me how I feel about snorkeling, and while scuba diving has always been my go-to, I’ve had some surprisingly powerful and intimate moments snorkeling as well. Over time, I started realizing that the very things that make scuba diving amazing—tanks, bubbles, noise—can also push animal life away. Snorkeling, and later freediving, opened up a much quieter way to interact with the ocean, and that shift really stuck with me. I’d always been aware of freediving, but never seriously considered it until I met Chris Cheezum, the owner of Just Get Wet. I’ve been around a lot of dive shops around the world, and this one truly stands out. From the moment you walk in, the experience feels different—in the best way. The customer service is top-level, but more importantly, the energy is real. Everyone there is genuinely passionate, and the shop is built around community, inclusivity, and making people feel welcomed and stoked—no matter their background or experience level. I ended up buying the Wave 1 Molchanovs Freediving course as a birthday present to myself, and it turned out to be one of the best gifts I’ve ever given myself. Even coming from a professional scuba background, I approached freediving with a completely open mind. While there is some crossover knowledge, the two disciplines are very different, and the way the instructors at Just Get Wet guide you through the science, physiology, and techniques is exceptional. Being comfortable in the water definitely helped, but the instructors meet everyone exactly where they are and elevate the entire group together. From start to finish, Just Get Wet operates like a well-oiled machine (shark snot included). They clearly have the structure, experience, and passion to support anyone—whether you’re just starting out or looking to go deep into the sport. I can’t say enough good things about my instructor, Hannah. She was fun, calm, incredibly knowledgeable, and made safety feel natural rather than forced. She was the perfect first guide into freediving, and I’m grateful to have learned from her. One moment that really stuck with me was at the end of the course when she looked at me and said, “You’re one of us now,” followed by a fist bump. That simple moment sent a ripple of excitement straight through me and really captured what this community is about. For the open-water portion of the course, we joined a group of local line divers on their traditional Sunday dive. Without hesitation, they welcomed us newcomers with open arms, introducing themselves and making us feel immediately included. That sense of belonging was powerful. I also purchased all of my gear through Just Get Wet. Their knowledge carried straight through into helping me select exactly what I needed—no upselling, just thoughtful recommendations. I’ll continue buying my gear there, not only to support a local shop, but because I trust the expertise, the quality, and the intention behind everything they do. Plus, their swag and design aesthetic genuinely hits for me, which is always a bonus. Freediving has a way of sharpening awareness—mind, body, and spirit—while also challenging you in deeply personal ways. What surprised me most, though, was how much it also connects you to a truly special community. Just Get Wet doesn’t just teach freediving—they build something meaningful around it. And I’m genuinely grateful to now be a part of that.
Great space, i’ve taken many courses and trips with them, can’t recommend them enough. Love the space and always have expert tip on all my gear. They just changed locations and the new shop is even bigger and better than the last! If you’re looking into Freediving or Spearfishing hit them up.
