Absolutely fantastic day diving with the fastest dive boat on the planet (or at least Maui) with the best crew ever. Javier on the helm has more energy than a toddler after multiple shots of espresso and a bag of Halloween candy, Katie took care of everything else on the boat, and Big John made sure everything underwater was both safe and fun. And we got to visit the international diving landmark of John’s Pile. Highly recommend!

My husband and I had a great 2 tank dive to the Molakini crater and a site called Red Hill. Captain Steve, John and Emerald were our crew for the day and were very friendly and professional. John was our guide and he was able to find some …

I have over 20 dives on Maui, spread amongst six different dive companies over 9 years, and yesterday was my first trip with Island Style Diving. December 8, 2025, I joined Island Style Diving for their Molokini Back Wall dive. This was a terrific drift dive for divers with at least 40 dives; our depths were around 90 ft. max with for me an average of 58 ft. We were blessed with whale song as we did our safety stop. On the dive, we saw grey reef sharks and barracuda along a sheer wall drop-off; between the coral and schools of reef fish, eels, lobsters, everywhere I looked it was dramatic and gorgeous along with very relaxing as we drifted with yesterday’s mild current. Team, led by co-owner/captain Javier and co-owner/head divemaster Christinia along with John (my divemaster) and Rei extra help to ensure our drift dive was safe with an extra set of eyes on deck. This was a very professionally run small group setting for advanced divers. On our way to the second dive site, we became a whale watching tour as we watched probably 4 male and 1 female adult humpback whales do all the early season classic humpback behavior. Our second dive site was very close to Makena Beach State Park (Wailea, HI) called Red Hill (Pu’u Ola’i); this was another drift dive, although quite shallow; I believe every diver in my group had over an hour of bottom time (standard AL 80 single tank). I heard whale song at the beginning of the dive, the key geologic feature was a pinnacle and many lava fingers, within one that we explored included a large and beautiful swim through. Saw another eel, plus a couple of huge frog fish (in separate locations), along with a green lionfish; so many schools of reef fish including juvenile all over the dive site. I found swimming low in explorer mode along the shallow canyons (31 feet average) within the lava fingers to be very fun. I so much look forward to visiting both dive sites again, and I will of course book again with Island Style Diving.
