Learning cave diving with Marissa was easily one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve had in my diving career. From day one, the communication was incredibly open. We spent a lot of time discussing expectations and learning pace to ensure the progression actually made sense for me. Even with over 17 years of experience as a cave instructor, Marissa doesn’t use a "one-size-fits-all" approach. She is highly intuitive, adjusting her teaching style to how you personally process information. You stop just "getting through" the dive and start understanding exactly what you’re looking for and why it matters. The entire course was private and deeply personalized. Marissa handled the logistics, we planned each day together, and every dive was followed by a thorough debrief. She doesn't just tell you what to fix, she explains the "why" behind it, which is where the real connection happens. For anyone considering an independent cave instructor over a standard dive shop, the value here is unmatched. You get more flexibility, more direct attention, and a curriculum built around the student rather than a rigid shop schedule. We also did a photo session that was fantastic; she went out of her way to find specific locations that matched the aesthetic we were looking for. Marissa is detail-oriented, thoughtful, and genuinely kind. She adjusted her approach based on my personality, a level of awareness you rarely find in the industry. A quick heads-up: If you just want to rush through a course to see pretty caves and get a certification card, this isn't the right fit. You’ll be challenged in ways you might not want. But if you care about safety, ethics, and becoming a truly skilled member of the cave diving community, it would be a mistake not to reach out to her.
