Chris (owner) and Goni (instructor) were easy and professional to deal with. They are patient and emphatetic, they work with you and wants you to have fun and get comfortable in the water rather than follow a strict agenda. Goni will observe and suggest other skills or activities if he senses that you are struggling. I was very happy with the outcome. At the end of the day our goal is to have fun, get comfortable and confident being in the water. I was able to demonstrate the skills except for one (underwater rescue) which I can keep on practicing as well as equalization. I must say the breathing techniques really help and the water therapy. I just finished both the Level 1 and Advanced freediving courses at Freedive Utila and the experience exceeded my expectations in every way. The instruction was excellent — professional, safety-focused, and deeply thoughtful about the mental side of freediving, not just the technical skills. The instructors created an environment that felt supportive and calm while still pushing us to grow. The community around the school was also a highlight. Students and instructors alike share a genuine passion for the ocean and for helping each other progress. It made the whole experience feel welcoming and collaborative rather than competitive. I left not only with new depth milestones, but with a much deeper appreciation for the practice of freediving and the calm it can bring. Highly recommend Freedive Utila to anyone curious about freediving, whether you’re brand new or looking to advance your training. An incredible experience all around.
