Alan is a great diving instructor, a connection of trust was quickly established (and now evolved into friendship). I was doing TDI Sidemount and TDI Cavern Diver with him, and he puts tremendous effort into every detail, such that in the end there is no room for mistakes, which for these certifications is vital. He patiently helped me tune my own sidemount equipment up to perfection. Also, he is an authentic Mexican, which is important for me when I am already in that area. Plus, he knows so many great places for delicious authentic food :-)
