Diving Candidasa

Loved doing my Open Water Diver course here and am very grateful to have had Joerg as my instructor. He was calm, attentive, knowledgeable and fun. He didn’t let mistakes slide to ensure I was learning properly, but throughout he was so supportive, which helped build my confidence. Would definitely come back or visit Joerg elsewhere for another adventure!

Edit: They ended up getting back to me and offering a diving session. We had already been diving with another center and had booked a further session. But nice of them for getting back! Original: Bad service, high prices and poor communication. I was staying at the hotel where they are based with my husband (Candi beach resort and spa); thus I went a total of 4 times over three days to ask about availability in diving and snorkelling. They kept telling me to come back on the next day, as they had to ask the instructors. The following day I would be told the same thing. On the third day an arrogant secretary told me I should have written an email or whatsapp message a long time ago, and that most customers book months in advance. It felt like I was wasting their time and they were making me a favor for considering my request at all. And I felt most unwelcome. Following that conversation I still sent a WhatsApp message on that same day and received no response. Because of their stategic positioning in the middle of a big resort it appears to me they have become accustomed to getting a considerate number of requests from guests, which has led to them becoming arrogant and unhelpful. After these three days I was tired of such treatment and decided to look for alternative options. To my surprise, after contacting a couple of diving centers per whatsapp I got very fast replies with great offers for the next couple of days. Let me stress here that these are PADI certified diving centers with great instructors and organisation. I was able to organise at 6pm a diving session for the following day, for me and my husband, one instructor each, with pick up and drop off at the hotel, all at a great price, considerably better offer than the Diving Candidasa price. These centers also offered longer courses with certification. All in all, my strongest advice if you are staying at the Candi beach resort is not to settle for this diving tourist trap. Do a quick search of the nearby diving centers (all the way to Amed beach) who offer great services, friendly service, pick up at the hotel and will accommodate to your availability and preferences.

It was my first time in the ocean, I did the OWD course there followed by Advanced Adventurer (9 dives total) all in 5 days. My instructor Jörg was the most kind, patient, knowledgeable and funny person, and he made me fall in love with the ocean and diving. Organisation of everything from transport to gear was spot on however it was not in the high season (April) Communication before arriving with Andreas was very good as well. I will be back 100%😊
