Private Sailing Trip to Isla Mujeres We recently booked what was advertised as a private sailing experience to Isla Mujeres. As this was quite an expensive charter, we had high expectations for a relaxed and exclusive day at sea. First of all, I want to say that the crew on board were excellent. They were friendly, professional, and clearly did their best to make the trip enjoyable. Their effort and positive attitude were definitely the highlight of the experience. However, the overall concept of the “private” trip was somewhat disappointing compared to what we expected for the price. Although the boat itself was private for us, the rest of the experience felt more like an upgraded group tour rather than a true private charter. For example, the lunch stop was at a buffet-style restaurant shared with large tour groups, which took away from the exclusive feeling we had anticipated. Some of the staff at the restaurant were also not particularly welcoming upon arrival, which unfortunately left a slightly negative first impression. Additionally, the boat itself felt quite minimalistic. The outdoor seating area lacked cushions or a comfortable lounge setup, which would have made the sailing experience much more relaxing and enjoyable. For a private charter at this price level, we expected a bit more comfort and atmosphere on board. Overall, the trip was still enjoyable thanks to the hardworking crew and the beautiful surroundings around Isla Mujeres. However, we believe the experience could be improved by making the “private charter” concept feel more exclusive and comfortable, especially considering the premium price.
