Amazing place to stay to chill out and relax. Good for holidays and especially backpackers. The beach is small and nice. Having a lot of places to eat and small shops. Nothing big although. I can recommend snorchling trip as we made it for 15 dollars. It took 6 hours and sunset was included. Best place to go for swim is half kilometre to the South. There is long and beautiful beach without any building ... This is small paradise.

We spent about two weeks there did hiking to clear water bay, swimming with sharks, got a few drinks in couple of local bars, just hang around and it was perfect! You can feel and experience the life of this small and lovely fisherman’s village. On top of that they do not try to overcharge you times two and times three like they do on the Koh Rong, and it is not heavy populated like Koh Rong. Its an oasis.

If you come here for a convenient pampering vacation, this is definitely not for you, at least for now. But if you want to experience local village life, then you're most welcome to stay here for a few days or even weeks and months. There are few constructions going on at the village for the past year but it shouldn't be a bother if you don't put high expectations in the first place. It is what it is, a fishing village in a transition state of becoming a travel destination, hence the ongoing constructions. We enjoyed our stay here despite its shortcomings. We purposely chose this village over Saracen Bay and other beaches on the island . We knew what to expect before we arrived at the village because our main aim of travelling here is to experience not just the nature side of the island but also to experience local culture and to interact with the locals. We were lucky to have met a restaurant owner who could speak Malay as most of the villagers are not well versed in English. She told us about the recent developments on the village in the past year or so, how most of the villagers house that used to be on the beach itself had been taken down and moved to the inland part on the hills. This is due to clearing up of the beach to accommodate tourism industry on the island and at the same time preserving its identity as a fishing village. There are many stories you can get through interactions with the villagers. M'pai Bei village is all about simple living, cultural experience and is one of the best experience during our travels.
