Very disappointed in this excursion, especially considering it cost us $400 CAD, which is a lot of money for us (manta snorkel). I really wish the dive staff had provided a clearer explanation of what the activity actually involved. If they had properly explained how it worked, I never would have chosen it. The experience was very different from manta snorkeling I’ve done in other countries — and unfortunately, it felt chaotic and stressful rather than enjoyable. The trip involved a long boat ride (about 2.5 hours). When a manta was spotted, everything became extremely rushed. We were hurried into the water, and within minutes many other boats arrived at the same location. There were so many boats crowding the area that I genuinely felt nervous about how close they were getting to swimmers in the water. At the same time, we were trying to quickly follow our guide (who at times was hard to distinguish from other groups), swim fast to keep up, watch for mantas below, and deal with waves created by the surrounding boats. It was overwhelming. We did see one manta, which I would have been happy about under calmer circumstances. However, we were only in the water with it for a couple of minutes before being rushed out again. So $400 for a stressful swim, and a couple minutes watching the manta. In past manta excursions I’ve done elsewhere, when sightings were limited or null (which I completely understand — this is wildlife and nothing is guaranteed), the operators offered a complimentary second attempt which we used and had a great second trip in hawaii. Here, when I explained how disappointing and stressful the experience was, nothing was offered. We had been given vouchers on check in for a snorkel excursion which they said was valued at $70 (which makes sense since the snorkel trip is usually $75pp) so we assumed it was per person, but found out after this sad excursion and trying to book a better one, that’s its actually total $70. which doesn’t go far toward another excursion as they are priced so high. So I saved that voucher to use for a second trip thinking it was $140, but I’m not willing to spend another $400 to try something else — especially when we would have chosen a different activity from the start if things had been explained more clearly- and now I have a useless voucher that I could have used towards that bill todsy had that value also been explained properly ahead of time. This really put a damper on our trip. It’s our first time here, we’re staying for 8 days, and we were really hoping for an amazing marine life experience. Unfortunately, this was not it.

The experience was what promised, the staff was lovely and we felt safe with them. The low rating is because during the excursion, fish (including sharks/rays) were fed with chicken to attract them for photos. This practice is harmful for the fish health, alters natural behavior, and goes against responsible marine tourism. I wish the operator will move toward more eco-friendly practices in the future.

We had a great dive with our instructor JD. It was the first scuba dive ever for my wife and eventhough she was a little anxious at first, JD did a great job to guide her and make her feel safe at all times. Both of us had a great experience and we saw the most wonderful underwater wildlife. She might even start scuba diving as a hobby :)
