Bastianos Bunaken Dive Resort

State of the art diving plus wonderful stay. That was our second stay at Bastianos: a year ago we were at Bangka - truly amazing, this year we decided to visit Bunaken - wow, even better :) 2 adults + our 10 years old son making junior open water diver certification. Much thanks to Paulus - great dive instructor. Son made first dives at the pool, then open water diver. We were picked up from Manado airport, then a 20 minutes drive to coastline and then a 30 minutes boat trip to the resort. We stayed at Superior Beachfront Room - we recommend it, what a wonderful view at the sea! Early moring coffee, reading a book with a sea view every day. At night you can realx, forget about everyday stress and fall asleep with a wonderful sound of waves on the beach. Our room was very comfortable, air conditioning working great. What is very important: beds were very comfortable, nice pillows. Toilet large enough. All nice clean. Have in mind that this resort is not the newest one, but well maintained. We loved the pool - long and big enough to swim with good condition. After coming back from every day dives we loved swimming in the pool. For sure they have the best swimming pool in Bunaken! Dive center is operating well. They have several boat. Because we stayed in February - low season, we were like VIPs: 4 divers on the boat. 1 dive guide per 3 divers - NICE ! Diving was AWSOME - amazing reef, lots of fish, weak currents. Our son did great there. Incredible for underwater photograpthy. We did 3 dives every day: 2 morning dives, and 1 afternoon dive. There is a camera room in the resort, airconditioned. I wished they had air guns there to take care of camera. Food was good, we are not very demanding about it. Service great. The staff was nice and always helpful. After dinner, it was fun to play the pool. The resort has large variety of books - about diving, about critters, about reef & fish, about Manado area. If you are looking for a stay at Bunaken and dive there, this resort is the place to stay. There are many more expensive resorts on the island, but Bastianos is a great resort when compare money to quality. Other resorts could be twice more expensive, but diving the reef remaines the same. Oh, I forgot to mention: we will book next diving vacation there again.

I had a mixed experience staying and diving at Bastianos Bunaken. The positives: The staff and manager were friendly and helpful, the dive crew skilled and professional, and my room clean and comfortable with a quiet AC that kept me cool. They offer nitrox, which was also a plus. The food was good but mostly western. The location is wonderfully quiet, no loudspeaker prayers or over-amplified music, a bit of a rarity traveling around Indonesia. I heard only the waves. The negatives: I was asked to pay for my package in advance, but when circumstances shortened my trip by a day management in Manado only refunded my last two dives, keeping the money paid for my last night. Nothing was ever said about my stay being nonrefundable, so it was an unpleasant surprise. Perhaps I was naive, but in the future and a dive to future guests: estimate a shorter stay and/or not pay in full. With regards to the reefs, they are showing signs of ill-health but are nearby and still very pretty, especially the walls, just not as much in other areas of this fantastic country.

Our last stop of the three Bastianos Resorts. We were glad we came here last. Because the Diving was the best here. Going the other way round we may have been a bit disappointed when reaching Lembeh Obviously the oldest of the 3 resorts and a little bit rundown but rooms and public areas comfortable enough. The food was excellent staff extremely helpful as always and the diving impressive.
