Great shop on the side of the island. We had 40mph gusts in West End and our dive shop used one of their boats. They had towels for us when we got back in the boat which was nice to keep warm.
Staying in West End but drove over to do a dive at Mary’s Place. Our friends didn’t have a car and they said the taxi was 40$ to get to Barefoot Divers. The staff were amazing, I really felt they went above and beyond. Towels after dives and other sweet added bits of hospitality. We thought it was beautiful, but it was good they tapered the groups apart, because it is a popular dive site. After our first dive we did a second one at the wall and saw a huge eagle ray. Good dives.
After several trips diving exclusively around West End and West Bay, we decided to explore the north side of Roatán and are so glad we chose Barefoot Divers, located just north of Mahogany Bay. Having our own car made it easy to reach, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. Our dives included Mary’s Place, the Prince Albert shipwreck, and two additional reef dives where lionfish were abundant. We were able to safely harvest five lionfish and enjoy them afterward—an experience that added a unique and rewarding element to the dives. The divemasters, Ron and Tatiana, were exceptional—both highly knowledgeable and genuinely friendly. Each dive was preceded by a thorough, well-organized briefing that inspired confidence and enhanced the overall experience. The boat itself was extremely well maintained, with excellent equipment and thoughtfully designed integrated rinse tanks. A special mention goes to the boat captain, Tenley, whose calm presence and kindness stood out. He even offered to help clean the lionfish for us upon our return—an unexpected and much-appreciated gesture. The dive facilities were top notch, featuring up-to-date, name-brand equipment and wetsuits, along with clean bathrooms and hot showers available at the end of the day. Between dives, we were treated to fresh fruit, coffee, and hot tea, and after every dive, warm, clean towels were waiting for us—small details that made a big difference. Barefoot Divers delivers a professional yet personal experience that is clearly built around diver comfort, safety, and enjoyment. I highly recommend this shop and can confidently say we will be back on our next trip to Roatán.
