Awesome dive shop. Great gear, amazing dives with more sharks than I've ever seen, manta rays, turtles and more. Don't miss out!

I did not have a pleasant experience with Abyss. I am a DM and have been diving for 30 years all over the world, and I have never been spoken to as rudely as the man who I presume is the owner of Abyss during check in. I asked a reasonable question about how many boats and groups of divers would be diving the same sites at the same time. In an arrogant and presumptuous tone, he refused to answer the question, and when I rephrased it, he cut me off and started ranting about how this is not Australia, this is New Caledonia, the biggest coral reef in the world, it is like an aquarium out there, and I can talk to him about all the people in the water after the dives. Especially as I suspect this person is the owner, I need to warn future patrons that consider themselves experienced divers with reasonable standards: the customer service here is terrible, the boat is dingy style and tiny, and you are packed onto it with 16 other people like sardines, the trip out to the reef is rough (the coral was not even as healthy as the coral in bay de citron), you will be diving with 20 + other people at the same site, and the entry back on to the boat is very difficult bordering unsafe. I will not be booking with this company ever again nor will I be recommending it to the many people I know who live and travel here.

Fantastic experience 🤿 🐠 🪸 Booking: - Booked one day before at their office “Sea Sport - Route de l'Anse Vata Complexe La Promenade Nouméa, 98800, New Caledonia “ and Dennis was able to secure the last available spot for me. He explained everything well and gave me a flyer with all information needed. Dive Shop: - The Dive Center is located at the harbour and it’s very well maintained, clean, organised and professional. Equipment: - Equipment is top notch quality and well maintained. They provide everything you need and you should make sure to grab a mask and fins etc. that fit well and that you feel comfortable with. I would have felt more secure with a dive computer as it was not provided. Dive: - Rachel our Dive Instructor Lady was very warm and welcoming while always highly professional. Tanks and BCDs were prepared but I recommend you take the time for a buddy check as it’s your responsibility as a diver to take care of yourself! As usual it’ll get hectic on the boat and they want you in the water fast (never understood why) always take the time to be ready and check your equipment. Underwater: - The dive sites were great and on the first dive (14m) we saw plenty of reef sharks in all sizes, huge stingrays and heaps of fishes 🐠 - Between the dives we had warm tea and some cookies ☕️ 🍪 - The second dive (18m) was a bit deeper and took us along a wall with a stronger current - stunning spot where we happened to spot a group of huge manta rays ! Safety protocol and briefing: - Before the dive we filled out a form with a highly professional safety protocol! Everything was well explained and clear to understand. - Rachel also gave me an English briefing as the other divers only spoke French 🇫🇷 Fun factor: - Apparently, lots of military divers join dives there too and I felt some ego in the room… Instructors were fun and groups were mixed - not many travellers from overseas. The ride on the boat was choppy and best bring a seasickness pill if you need it. Groups: - We had two groups with around 8 people on each group. It didn’t feel cramped or discomforting as some other reviewers said but it’ll be a full boat. Overall a great experience and I can highly recommend them. Thank you for the great experience!
